Mins from the last SGA 2010-2011 Meeting

April 25th, 2011
Absent: Longstratt, Tilmon, van Noppen, Bickham, Jaura, Foster, Durham, Scott
Executive Reports
President: The President had a Board of Supervisors meeting. Tuition will go up since the GRAD Act passed.
Old Business
The President stated that the new Senate does the Study Blitz and explained what the Study Blitz is.
Senator Mazur discussed Bill S1107 which addresses the SGA members of the Student Conduct Board. The bill will be given to the new senate.
New Business
Both amendments passed and they need to be put into the SGA Constitution.
The President is going to Baton Rouge because outgoing student members will be attending the President’s breakfast and Council Of Student Body President elections are coming up and the new SGA President will be eligible for the Chair or the Secretary position of COSBP.
May 4th is March on the Capitol for Higher Education.
May 3rd there will be an Educate LA Rally and all are encouraged to attend. It will be at the Century Tel from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and there will be free crawfish.

Executive Reports
President: The President announced her upcoming COSBP meeting on April 9th-10th and said the Intent-to-run forms needed to be picked up.
SAB Liaison: Senator Harrington stated that the Spring Fling is April 27th-29th and the theme is “It’s a Fiesta.” Freshman Orientation is April 15th. Student Appreciation  Week is April 4th-6th and The Student Leadership Awards are April 13th. The Study Blitz is also coming up as well.
New Business
S1102 Request for Additional Parking Proposal was presented by Senator Ashby and Pro-Temp Tilmon. The proposal asks for an additional 20 faculty parking spaces for students as well as an increased fine to $50 for students parking in faculty spots. Senators discussed fines for visitors and visitor parking, problems with students parking in faculty spots, the parking spots requested being negotiable and whether or not the increased fine was needed.
 S1102 passed with 9 in favor and Longstratt, Harrington, and McLean abstained.
S1103 Resolution to the Louisiana System Boards of Regents and Supervisors from the LSU Shreveport Student Government Association was presented by Senator Mazur. The bill separates the money allotted in the SOS referendum from tuition.
S1103 passed with 9 in favor, Durham and Webb opposed, and Natiello abstained.
S1104 Save LOUIS, a valuable tool for academic research, was presented by Senator Natiello. The bill stated that the online resource, LOUIS, is needed by students and faculty and requests that the Board of Regents find money to fund LOUIS. Senators asked questions about funding from this past year and number of users. They also discussed how LOUIS is distributed, and that EBSCO comes from the LOUIS system. Senator Natiello said that the faculty member, Allen, could provide more information.
S1104 passed with all in favor.
S1105 Distinction between College Senators and Senators-At-Large was presented by Senator Harrington. The bill states that college senators are to meet with their college’s organization presidents and report back to the SGA. The senators discussed the accountability of this. Senator Natiello suggested that the college senators talk with the college deans as well.
S1105 passed with all in favor.

S1106 Support of Student Conduct Board Student Representatives was tabled for the next meeting.

Announcements
-Intent-to-run forms are due Friday, March 25th no later than 12:00 noon and there will be a mandatory meeting at 4:00.
-Campaigning begins the 28th of March
-Elections are April 4th-8th and the next week are run-offs
-Spring Fling is coming up
-The Election Board needs to be chosen
-Study Blitz for finals needs to be discussed

March 9th Minutes

Special Meeting 3/9/11
Absent: Carscadden, Harrington, Tilmon, Cochran, Webb, McLean, van Noppen, Durham, Scott

Executive Reports
President: The President talked about her recent Board meeting.
Secretary: The Secretary reported that Cane’s will be served at SGA Day.

New Business
The Parking and Traffic bill was presented by Senator Ashby and was discussed. Senator Ashby Pro Temp Tilmon, and President Lieberman observed the parking lots in order to take in some statistics of the parking lot situation. Senator Longstratt suggested that parking behind the HPE building needs to be dual. The parking violation fee increase in the bill was discussed as well as to whether or not it would encourage Faculty Senate approval.

The GRAD Act and SOS Separation Bill was introduced by Senator Mazur. Suggestions to approve the bill as well as rewording some of the language were discussed.
Both bills were tabled for the 3/21 meeting.
